Where is the coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest? Its a huge event and nothing is being shown on your site.

    20.05.09

    Dear viewer,
We covered the build-up and the outcome as a news event on air and on line, but we didn’t carry the contest live as we are a news channel. Head of English Service.

    Dear euronews,

Your post ‘VoteWatch stokes MEP anger’ is wrong and inaccurate in its reporting on the VoteWatch.eu project. I write to request you remove the article from your website or correct the content.

VoteWatch.eu was launched on Monday at a debate about transparency in the EU, where it was welcomed by a panel including the European Ombudsman, Transparency International and Tony Barber from the Financial Times. The project and the website is a serious contribution to the EU debate as the website for the first time enables the public, the media and any interested parties to look up individual MEPs and see their records for how they vote on specific pieces of legislation. The website also makes it possible for the public to get easy-to-understand information about how coalitions are formed, how MEPs are involvement in policy work, the various parliamentary committees, how often they attend plenary sessions, which questions they raise in the plenary, etc etc.

Your article mixes up the VoteWatch.eu website with another recent website which had to shut down due to complaints. That website was called Palorama, and your article gives an inaccurate impression that Palorama.eu and VoteWatch.eu are the same. It is not, and contrary to what you suggest, VoteWatch.eu has had an overwhelmingly positive amount of interest – even from a number of MEPs who find that the website gives evidence of their activities in a way that they can also communicate to their voters. Other MEPs may be less enthusiastic about their statistics and records on the website, but the general acknowledgement is that this is not due to problems with the website….

I hope you will publish this note in a very visible place on your website and make sure that the article either comes off or is corrected.
    – and then I hope you will be able to use www.votewatch.eu for your work on EU affairs, but with a more accurate presentation of its content.

    Dear VoteWatch.eu and other viewers,
We apologise for this basic factual mistake, which appeared only on the English version, and the entirely wrong impression it created. We rectified the error as soon as it became known and the head of our Europe section has already been in contact with VoteWatch to convey our regrets and explain how it happened. I certainly lost all trust in your newsroom due to complete lack of impartiality when you failed to publish my strong protest regarding the illegal immigrants and Malta in your newsmedia reports. I have no idea what your agenda is but it definately is not unbiased news reporting that respects the viewers’ inteligence. You may not even publish this message but that will only confirm what i have just said so i will thank you for that in advance.

    Dear euronews staff member,

First of all I want to say that I am glad that euronews exists and watch it frequently via Dutch digital cable. euronews is truely a pan-European tv-channel.

I write you because I would like to see that euronews would be offered in the Dutch language as well. The citizens of the Netherlands and Flanders would watch in much higher numbers if it would be offered in their native language. Most citizens in the Netherlands can receive euronews via analogue and digital tv cable.

I have send an email to the Dutch broadcaster NOS.nl and Flemish broadcaster VRT.be to ask them if they want to become an mediapartner with your tv-channel. I also have started an website to promote the idea of the Dutch language on euronews. The URL is: http://euronews-in-het-nlds.hyves.nl .

In June 2009 the European Parlement elections are held, and I have written to several candidates of several Dutch political parties, and they all support the idea. They will try to bring it on the agenda of their own political party.

One day, euronews will also be broadcasted in the Dutch language.

    Best regards,

    Martin de Vries
    Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

I wish someone would come up with a GOOD NEWS CHANNEL. As watching THE NEWS on every TV station is always bad. People being killed all over the world etc etc. Most people are sick of watching bad news all the time. I am sure there’s plenty of good news to report too. So a station called GOOD NEWS would be wonderful and a sure winner

It am really disapointed by the way euronews describes the undisputed genocide of Armenians by using the word alleged and puting genocide in inverted commas.

    Dear euronews staff members,

Would you please consider my feedback on the recent news on Turkey-Armenia border and Mountainous-Garabagh (Nagorny-Garabagh) issues? I was disappointed when I saw the particular news and its ‘professionally camouflaged bias’, if not total unprofessionalism.

As an everyday euronews observer, and still believer in its impartiality and professionalism, but I was frustrated when I heard the amateur statement that ‘one million and half Armenians were killed by Turks’. Even if that happened, the Armenian still side rejects the idea of establishment of the common commission of international historians to scrutinise it, which is awkward!

And last, but not less important, the reason why Turkey closed border in 1993 is the Armenian occupation of the territories not just in, but also around the Nagorny-Garabagh region of Azerbaijan. The closure reason is not because ‘Azerbaijan is Muslim Shia country’ (or supposed to be). But if the religion were a case indeed, then it would have been Shia Iran, not a Sunni Turkey to demonstrate solidarity.

Turkey is the first country to recognise and launch diplomatic relations with Armenia.

So, these are the comments by the ‘other’ side as you should have reflected in your news, not only the Armenian side.

May I ask you kindly to hand in these remarks to the board and ultimately rectify the text for the very next time, if you can’t apply correction to the flowing news?

Looking forward to your swift response.

Dear viewer We have done a lot of stories over the past few days on this issue and have repeatedly and clearly made the point that the facts and figures are disputed by both sides. We have reported that Armenia says 1.5 million people were killed and that Turkey rejects this, saying the number was less, that it wasn’t, in its view, ‘genocide’ and that many Turks died in the conflict of the time. We have no interest in promoting one cause over another; we simply report the facts of the dispute and in this case, the claims and counter claims that are at the heart of the story.

I feel very strongly regarding Turkey joining the EU. This is an islamic country and is what Gaddafi, the Libyan leader wants, in order to invade Europe and the European catholics and their peaceful way of life. We do not want to become islam and that is what is happening if the EU does not wake up to this fact. Another weapon Gaddafi is using is sending so very many illegal immigrants to Europe through poor tiny islands like ours …. Malta

Dear viewers This post reflects sentiments felt strongly by some in Europe. If you wish to respond to the post, please bear in mind it is the poster’s viewpoint and not a comment on euronews output. Head of English Service

    Dear Editor,

In your article “Tadic visits Kosovo one year after declaration of independence” (euronews), dated from 17 April you wrote the following lines – “In a move that appeared designed to remind the world of Serbia’s objections to Kosovan independence, Serbian President, Boris Tadic spent Orthodox Good Friday at a Kosovan monastery”.
I would like to remind you on a wrong word used to describe the monastery that the Serbian President Boris Tadic had visited. Decane monastery is not a Kosovan monastery, there is not even such a thing existing. It is the Serbian Orthodox Monastery, build by the Serbian ruler Stefan Decanski and completed by his son Tzar Dusan the Great. The monastery is located in the town called Decani, in the western part of Kosovo. As you are probably aware the majority of population in Kosovo are Albanians and they are of Muslim religion, while members of the Serb community living in Kosovo are Orthodox Christian. In this way it is wrong to call the monastery as “Kosovan” as it doesn’t represent anything but only geographic location of the monastery which is again not sufficient to explain the real history and belonging of this important Orthodox Christian religious site that is under UNSECO protection too. For more information about Decane monastery please visit the http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/724 or www.kosovo.net/edecani. Recently Smithsonian magazine listed Decane monastery as one of 15 the most endagered sites in the world. For mora information about this issue please visit: http://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/Endangered-Cultural-Treasures-Visoki-Decani-Monastery-Kosovo.html. Hope this will help you to use proper words while describing the monasteries located in Kosovo and I remain in hope that you will correct this mistake.

    Best regards

    Anzelika

Dear viewer The item makes it very clear it is a Serbian Orthodox monastery. It is hard to imagine how using a geographical adjective could somehow change its nature or confuse viewers. Head of English Service

I agree with the message below. Germany and France have too much power in the EU. This is suppose to be a fair and equal group. It feels like the alliance of the WW 1 but this time players are at the same team (Franco-German alliance )
Sarkozy is a man with many complex. He is a short man with a long ego. With Merkel, they look like dalton brothers.
They don’t want anyone to interfere their plans. They can be so cruel and rude to other countries. I think, UK, Spain and Italy should make their own alliance against them. And I really hope French people would not vote Sarkozy again.
And Turkey should be a EU member without a doubt if Poland, Bulgaria and Romania are already a member
