    Dear euronews,

Just seen your report on the new litterature Nobel Prize winner, Herta Müller. I’ve seen the French version where she was labelled “d’origine roumaine” and “roumaine germanophone”. Although I haven’t ever spoken with the writer herself, I have a good guess that she would indentify herself as German – who was born in Romania. German name, German family, German mother tounge: that is what you call – at least in this part of Europe – a clearcut German.

OK, the final decisive factor is, how she identifies herself, something I do not know. My point nevetheless is that you euronews should not project your French, Western or whatever view of ‘nation’ to Middle or Eastern Europe, at least not in those news the subjects of which are related to these countries. If you keep this in mind, your news will be more European – an obvious expectation from a media with a name like yours.

Dear view The point is that Ms Muller’s familial roots have been a major influence on her writing. That’s why it was mentioned. Head of English Service

Interestingly enough I was in Kitty O’Shea’s Irish Bar, in Brussels, on the morning the results of the vote in Ireland on Lisbon were announced. Contrary to what euronews reported I didn’t see celebrations all round; the majority there seemed to be happy but what I saw was the news crews interviewing and focussing on the obvious “Yes” camp supporters. They didn’t seem to be interested at all in those who were obvious “No” camp people. Fair and balanced reporting or propaganda for our soon-to-be masters. Shame on you euronews. Maybe we should call for a third vote in Ireland and go for “best of three”. It was sickening to hear the talk of “a great day for democracy” when it was anything but that. Democracy was served in the first Irish vote but because the people had chosen the wrong answer the question had to be asked again. I say one more vote for the sake of certainty.

What a surprise, Ireland votes Yes to Lisbon. Intimidation, cajoling, bullying and bribery finally pays off.

This is democracy at it’s best, we should all be very proud. Perhaps next time we should have only one answer as an option to avoid confusion.

Smile people you’re on tv, tyranny in motion.

    Good evening euronews,

I just would like to ask you whether it is possible to be more “european”? I´m really missing news about countries like from Latvia ….. I think that it´s important for Europeans to know more about the daily problems of the countries of eastern EU. Would it be possible to give more informations(society, economy….) about daily news of this part?

    Vive l´Europe

    Dear viewer
We do try to cover as wide a range of news from across Europe as possible and we are always on the look-out for good stories from the east that may have been overlooked. We would happily consider any suggestions you or others viewers would care to offer us. Head of English Service

your new program “you” is interested as an idea, but poorly implemented. jut like many other people i don’t watch news, i mostly listen to them while preparing for work in the morning or doing some housework in the evening. but “you” is mute (at least in russian version) – you don’t read the question aloud and when you present the results, you don’t say the numbers. moreover, even if i manage to look at the screen, there will be only numbers, but no question so i have no idea what they refer to. i think you should work on that a little

Does this constitute bribery? EU offers money to Ireland for workers who have lost their jobs while in the same breath pushing for a Yes vote for Lisbon. If they get a No vote does Ireland still get the money? This reminds me of many of the comments I have been hearing lately about Ireland’s Lisbon vote, the fact that the country received EU funds means they should vote Yes – why? How is that Democracy? Buying votes isn’t right. Ireland has given a lot to Europe and has been a member for decades, Ireland steered the bloc through a potentially difficult expansion a few years ago, is this the work of Europhobes? The fact that the country is an example to democracies throughout the world, and that the constitution is designed to secure the voice to the people, should be praised not undermined. If the vote on October second doesn’t go the way I want can I request another one or is that right only reserved for those that have an agenda?

The peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error.

When one makes a Revolution, one cannot mark time; one must always go forward — or go back. He who now talks about the ‘‘freedom of the press’‘ goes backward, and halts our headlong course towards Socialism.

Let thy speech be better than silence, or be silent.

    Hi euronews,
Cén fáth go bhfuil ceist faoi stádas na mbancanna in Éirinn ar do shuíomh sa liosta céanna leis an nuacht ón Ríocht Aontaithe? Is tír neamhspleách, bródúil í Éire agus cuireann sé go mór isteach ar Eireannaigh a bheith curtha san áireamh in san Ríocht sin.

I’d like to ask why the story about ireland’s banking system is included in the feed of stories from the U.K? I understand that you may have received the news through the Reuters UK branch, however to an Irish person this procedural decision is painful to see. To have a story related to my country included amonsgt stories referring to “Wormwood Scrubs” and “Channel 4” gives the impression that Irish stories are one in the same as those from the UK and belittles my nationality.

Is there no Irish feed the story you could have sourced the story from? Would this happen with any other country? Does it happen to Ireland and Irish people because we speak English? If so, please be informed that we speak our own language too!!

I don’t question the validity of the story, which was well written, but I find it extremely frustrating to have my nationality treated as inconsequential.
Please clarify this for me as I feel very disappointed about it.

    Yours sincerely, Gary Jones

    Dear viewer
You make a valid point. The story appeared in a section that receives feeds automatically from Reuters and other English language wires services. It’s clearly wrong for a story about Ireland to appear in a section entitled “latest UK news”. The section needs to be renamed to avoid similar mistakes in the future. Thanks for your comments.
