LONDON (Reuters) – Boyband JLS have delivered a third successive number one by an “X Factor” performer after topping the pop charts with their second single “Everybody in Love” on Sunday.
Runners-up on the hit British TV talent show last year, JLS knocked Cheryl Cole, a judge on the show, off pole position to become the first British act since 2006 to have had two number one singles in the same year, the Official Charts Company said.
Both singles from the four-strong R&B boyband have sold more than 100,000 copies in their first week, a feat only achieved by three other acts this year.
Girls Aloud singer Cole’s debut solo single “Fight for This Love,” which dislodged X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke to top the charts two weeks ago, dropped to number two.
Burke’s “Bad Boys” slipped to number five, one spot above American singer Kesha’s “Tik Tok” which debuted at six, while Chase and Status featuring Plan B were the other new top 10 entry, going in at number nine with “End Credits.”
The Black Eyed Peas climbed three places from last week to sit in third place with “Meet me halfway.”
Cole’s album “3 words” remained top of the album chart for a second week, ahead of American rockers Bon Jovi whose new album “The Circle” debuted at number two. Welsh classical singer Katherine Jenkins’ “The Ultimate Collection” entered in ninth place.
