Pakistan Sharif pulls out of ruling coalition in Pakistan 25/08/08 20:56 CET

Former Pakistani premier Nawaz Sharif has pulled out of the ruling coalition throwing his country into deeper political crisis.

He said his main coalition partner, the party of
assassinated former prime minister Benazir Bhutto which leads the coalition, had repeatedly broken its promises.

The two sides disagree over who the country’s next president should be.

They are also at odds over the reinstatement of judges sacked by former President Pervez Musharraf.

His resignation last week to avoid impeachment threw the already fragile coalition into further turmoil.

However, Sharif’s departure is not expected to force a snap election as the Pakistan People’s Party should to gather enough support to govern.

Both parties have said they will put up their own candidates for the presidential election on September 6.
