Companies that offer mobile phone services such as ringtones and SMS alerts could face suspension if they fail to allow consumers to stop subscriptions without complications.
PhonePayPlus, the watchdog for premium phone-paid services, said it would clamp down immediately vendors who did not offer easy get-out clauses. The watchdog carried carried out a “Sweep” on mobile phone service websites between 2-6 of June. The “Sweep” is a new form of EU investigation and enforcement action, where member states carry simultaneous, coordinated checks of webpages for breaches in consumer law.
