Financial problems have grounded loss-making Spanish airline Spanair, for good.
All flights with the Barcelona-based firm have been suspended after efforts to find a buyer failed.
Its main shareholder, the regional government of Spain’s Catalonia region, says it can no longer provide funds. And prospective purchaser, Qatar Airways, has pulled out of talks.
Spanair made headlines for all the wrong reasons four years ago when a crash at Madrid’s main airport killed 154 people.
Its demise means Spain’s unemployment figures will soar further with around 3,500 direct and indirect jobs set to go.
