The Basque militant separatist group ETA has declared a ceasefire.
In a video posted on the Gara newspaper website, three hooded figures announce an end to armed attacks and “the start of democratic process.”
It remains unclear, however, whether the truce is permanent or temporary.
ETA declared a permanent in 2006, but Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero called off the peace process later that year after the group detonated a car bomb at Madrid airport that killed two Ecuadorians.
The Spanish government has so far not commented.
ETA, which wants an independent Basque region, has been crippled by the arrest of leading members in recent years.
The group’s leader was caught in February in northern France along with two senior ETA members.
