Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi arrives in the Italian capital for a two-day visit aimed at forging closer ties.
Media interest has tended to centre on the tent Gaddafi sleeps in during his foreign trips, along with the 30 thoroughbred Berber horses and 40 female bodyguards he is bringing on this trip.
But, in what is the second anniversary following an historic friendship deal signed with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, the visit has a clear business focus.
Economic ties between the two countries have flourished since 2008. Italy has become Libya’s biggest trading partner buying much of its oil and natural gas.
More controversially, Tripoli continues to invest in areas of the Italian economy, notably banking and energy. Something which has drawn criticism from Italy’s opposition.
