There has been a catastrophic double crash on a motorway in Portugal. 200 firefighters and emergency workers rushed to the scene near the town of Aveiro to help the injured.
Many of the victims had to be cut out of their vehicles. At least five people were killed while 72 were injured.

It is thought heavy rain and fog may have led to the first collision, which happened just after three in the afternoon.

Thick smoke from that incident is thought to have blown onto the adjacent carriageway and caused the pile-up there.
