DNA testing is being used to identify the victims of the worst air disaster on Pakistani soil.

The bodies of some of the 152 people killed in the crash near Islamabad have been released to grieving relatives.

But others are holding vigils outside the hospital where the remains are being taken.

“We’ve been waiting here since yesterday morning,” said one man. “Nobody is giving us any information about my relatives. What’s going on, I don’t know.”

Thick fog and rainy weather are now considered to be the most likely factors behind the crash of the Airbus A321.

The plane, operated by the private company Airblue, came down shortly before it was due to land after a flight from Karachi.

Heavy monsoon rain is continuing at the crash site, hampering efforts to recover bodies.

The operation was called off for a time, with helicopters unable to reach the area. Access on foot is also difficult as the crash site is on a steep and heavily-wooded hillside.
