French minister quizzed in Bettencourt affair

French Labour Minister Eric Woerth is being questioned by police as part of an investigation into allegations that the country’s richest woman dodged paying tax. 
 
Investigators are probing the fiscal affairs of Liliane Bettencourt, the L’Oreal heiress, after secret tapes emerged in which she allegedly discussed means of avoiding French tax with her business adviser.
 
Woerth’s name was mentioned in the recording after which the comestics billionaire is said to have written a cheque for the UMP ruling party.
 
The Labour minister’s wife is also under the judicial spotlight.
 
Florence Woerth worked for a company managing Bettencourt’s fortune before she quit last month.
 
Eric Woerth denies any conflict of interest.
