Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro is back in the public spotlight, four years after health problems forced him to hand over power to his younger brother.

During his fifth public appearance in 10 days, Castro has re-emerged with dire warnings about impending nuclear war.

He says US attempts to inforce international sanctions against Iran could spark a devastating war AND predicts a US attack against North Korea.

The 83 year old’s reappearence coincides with Cuba’s biggest release of political prisoners since 1998 after a deal brokered with the Catholic Church.

One prominent dissident, who is in hospital recovering from a 134 day hunger strike, spoke exclusively to euronews about his hopes and fears for the future.

“The brothers Fidel and Raul Castro are going to stop the changes right here, with the release of these 52 political prisoners of conscience. And we don’t want that. We must try to broaden the reforms and that depends on us, the peaceful opposition. It depends on the Cuban people but also on the international media, the governments, parliaments, political organizations all over the world,” said Guillermo Fariñas.
