Argentina’s renowned Teatro Colon, one of the world’s great opera houses, has reopened after a three-year restoration project.

The venue, modelled on La Scala in Milan, is known for its natural acoustics and is open for business as Argentina marks its bicentennial.

The makeover included restoring the exterior, some of the original flooring and the installation of a natural air conditioning system.

Thousands gathered in the Argentine capital to witness the spectacle.
