She rejects claims that she is a Neo-Nazi. But Austria’s most controversial candidate in tomorrow’s presidential election sparks strong feelings wherever she goes.

For supporters, far-right politician Barbara Rosenkranz is a patriot defending traditional values.

A self-described housewife and mother of 10, she is known for anti-European, anti-immigrant views. She has previously called for Austria’s strict anti-Nazi laws to be repealed.

Rosenkranz sees herself as the voice of the people, saying there is a huge gap between the public and Austria’s political classes.

Expected to poll around 20 per cent in tomorow’s ballot, Rosenkranz’s candidacy for the largely ceremonial president’s post has outraged critics.

The firm favourite to hold onto the top job tomorrow is current President Heinz Fischer. The
pro-European Social Democrat has a very different style from his main rival. Denounced as too timid by detractors, he is known to favour consensus over conflict.

A third candidate is not expected to make an impact on the vote, the winner of which has the right to live in a sumptuous residence in Vienna.
