There was joy on the streets of Greater Manchester in England. The focus of the celebrations was five- year-old Sahil Saheed, home again after his 12 day kidknap ordeal in Pakistan.
The pain and anxiety of the family caught in the glare of publicity during a remarkable international police operation was forgotten in the party atmosphere. A web of intrigue surrounds the family’s story and that of their son.
Spanish police officers seized three people in a flat in the Catalonia region in connection with the kidnap after a tip-off from Interpol. That information came following a phone call demanding a ransom of almost 110,000 euros was traced.
The money was handed over in Paris, watched by police who then followed the kidnappers across the French border. It is hoped these arrests will shed some light on the many unanswered questions surrounding the case.
