Arrests in Spain and Paris after Pakistan kidnap

Spanish police have arrested three people in connection with the kidnapping of a five-year-old boy in Pakistan.

The three – two Pakistani men and a Romanian woman, were found with the £110,000 ransom in the town of Tarragona in northern Spain.

The money had been handed over to two of the group in Paris while under French police surveillance. The alleged kidnappers had then brought the ransom back to Spain where police officers pounced.

British born Sahil Saeed had been seized on March 3 while visiting his grandmother on holiday. Robbers had broken into her house in Pakistan’s Punjab region where the intruders are said to have beaten family members in a six-hour ordeal. They then made off with the boy.

Thirteen days later Sahil was left near a school about 20 kilometres from where he had been taken. He was discovered wandering in a field when he was found by locals.

Police in France say they have also arrested two people and that the investigation is still ongoing.
