In Greece, police have used teargas to disperse a group of rioters who broke away from an anti-austerity rally.

The authorities say a group of around 30 people threw stones and bottles. Two people have been arrested and the protest went on as usual

One unnamed protester said: “We think the rich should pay for this crisis. We will continue to fight to stop these measures being passed.”

Around 1500 people had gathered to march to the Greek parliament, holding banners reading “we won’t pay for the crisis” and “withdraw the measures”.

Earlier in the day, health workers held their own anti-austerity protest on the streets of Athens.

Polls show just over half of Greeks back their government’s efforts to cut the ballooning debt and budget deficit.

Ecofin ministers have also met in Brussels, to discuss the shape of a framework to help Greece, if Athens asks for it.
