French socialists beat Sarkozy’s UMP in council poll In France, initial results suggest the Socialist Party, with 30 percent of the vote, is ahead in the first round of voting for the country’s regional elections.
The governing UMP party are second on 26 percent, with the Greens and National Front more or less neck and neck on 12.
Early indications also show that voter turnout was just over 50 percent..at 52.5.
Thats down on six years ago when 62 percent of those eligible to vote did so.
