The recent earthquake in Turkey has focused attention on what can be done to restrict loss of life and damage.

It is a country criss-crossed by geological faultlines so earthquakes are an ever present fact of life.

But scientists backed with NATO money have found a way to reduce the effect of the seismic sting.
