A new exhibition in Canberra, Australia remembers the ‘Dunera boys’, a group of Second World War refugees from Europe, who were shipped to Australia by the British government ‘by mistake’.

They were mainly Jewish refugees who had been living in Britain, but were not allowed to stay because they were considered a ‘security risk’.

Bern Brent fled Nazi Germany aged 15. But when he got to England, the British Government classified him as an ‘enemy alien’ and he was sent away two years later.
