Tymoshenko refuses to concede election

world news

Yulia Tymoshenko is reportedly vowing to never accept defeat. Ukrainian television reports the Prime Minister has decided not to concede after Sunday’s presidential run-off.

She has been under growing pressure to accept the victory of pro-Russian Viktor Yanukovich.

But her website says she has already instructed lawyers to prepare to contest the results.

The country’s electoral commission has not yet announced the final result, but has made it clear that Yanukovich is the winner by a slim margin.

This is the man Tymoshenko helped to sweep aside in the Orange Revolution in 2004, and critics say she cannot bear to watch him make a comeback.

Western observers declared the ballot mostly free and fair.
