China has launched a complaint with the World Trade Organisation against the European Union.

Beijing says Brussels had violated WTO rules by imposing penalty taxes on imports of Chinese shoes.

The European Union responded by defending the anti-dumping duties. It insisted they are not protectionist and are in line with World Trade Organisation rules.

Trade spokesman John Clancy said there is “clear evidence that dumping of Chinese products has taken place and that this is harming the otherwise competitive EU industry.”
