More technical problems for Eurostar

world news

A Eurostar train that broke down in the Channel Tunnel has finally emerged in southern England, after passengers spent around two hours stuck in the underwater rail link.

The delay to the Brussels to London service meant that all Eurostar trains had to be halted temporarily as a precaution. Car and truck shuttles through the tunnel were not affected.

The breakdown occurred around 11 kilometres from the tunnel exit on the British side and the train was eventually towed out.

On Wednesday four Eurostar trains were cancelled because of heavy snow.

Three weeks ago, several services ground to a halt in the tunnel linking Britain and France. Passengers were trapped then for up to 16 hours.
