At least one dead in Turkish train crash

world news

| |

Two passenger trains have collided in northwest Turkey, killing a driver and injuring three others.

Local reports say the accident occurred after one of the trains failed to stop at a signal. Another crew member and two passengers are said to be among the injured. Emergency teams are trying to free those still trapped inside carriages.

The crash happened in Turkey’s northwestern rural region of Bilecik as the trains made their way from Istanbul.

Rail accidents are frequent in Turkey due to its ageing network. In 2004, 37 people died and dozens were injured in a collision.
