US shops were busier this holiday shopping season and so were online retailers.
Preliminary figures from MasterCard’s tracking unit show a 3.6 percent rise compared with last year but still down on 2007.
The figures cover the period from the start of November to Christmas Eve – December 24th.
During that time there was a 15.5 percent surge in online purchases.
