The latest survey by the GfK market research group shows German consumer sentiment likely to decline going into January.
Questionnaires filled out by 2,000 Germans highlighted worries about losing their jobs which means they are wary of spending.
Unemployment is expected to rise in the coming months putting incomes under pressure.
