China “committed to reining in emissions”

Focus COP15

| |

China rebuffed criticism that it was partly to blame for the lack of progress in Copenhagen. Premier Wen Jiabao said Beijing is committed to meeting and even exceeding its goal of reining in emissions by 2020. He said China will honour its words with real action, whatever happens in Copenhagen:

“In addressing climate change, one must not turn a blind eye to historical responsibilities, emissions in countries at different levels of development, or undermine the efforts of developing countries to get rid of poverty. Actions in this regard can only be taken within the framework of sustainable development. We will honour our words with real action. Whatever this conference may produce, we are fully committed to achieving and even exceeding the target”.
