Russia mourns its dead youth

A day of mourning is being held throughout Russia after the country’s worst fire in decades at the weekend killed 113 people in a nightclub in Perm and left more than 140 injured.

Flags are being flown at half mast and memorial services are being held at churches, in a stunned mood in part due to the young age of most of the victims. In Perm itself many families have been hit hard by the tragedy, and burials have begun with, in places, lines of graves carved out of the frozen earth covered with snow. Four people have been arrested; the manager of the Ministry of Defence-owned Lame Horse nightclub, his artistic and executive directors, and the fireworks expert whose show went horribly wrong.More about: , ,
