Riots in Greece on shooting annniversary

Rioting has broken out in Greece on the first anniversary of the police shooting of a teenage boy.

In Athens shops and banks were vandalised and rubbish bins set on fire by protestors, some of whom police say have travelled from across Europe to take part. On Saturday more than 150 people were arrested, including Spaniards, Italians and Albanians. The new socialist government had deployed around 6,000 extra riot police on the streets of the capital in anticipation of trouble. Earlier in the day thousands marched to remember Alexis Grigoropoulos, a 15-year old boy shot dead by police. One officer will stand trial next month accused of his muder. Another is charged with attempted murder. That killing, along with general discontent at economic hardship among young Greeks, sparked some of the worst riots in living memory that lasted for two weeks.More about: Greece, Protest
