The cost of bailing out British banks has hit 940 billion euros, says the UK’s spending watchdog. The government has estimated the cost to taxpayers at up to sixty billion euros, but the National Audit Office says the final figure will not be known for years. But it says the UK government was justified in asking the public to shore up the shaken banking sector at the height of last year’s crisis.
