Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said Iran will enrich uranium to higher levels despite pressure to stop.

He declared the recent International Atomic Energy Agency censure illegal. The IAEA passed the resolution because Iran constructed a second nuclear plant in secret. President Ahmadinejad said: “Under pressure from a few superficially powerful countries, the International Atomic Energy Agency passed an illegal and unjust resolution against Iran. It is clear Iran is not afraid of them.” The President announced Iran will produce 20% enriched uranium itself. Civilian nuclear power requires uranium enriched to about 3%, but weapons grade uranium needs to be enriched to 90%. The West had hoped to farm out Iran’s low enriched uranium abroad for reprocessing to prevent Tehran from developing the know-how to make an atom bomb. Tehran could face harsher international sanctions and Israel has hinted at possible military action if diplomacy comes to a dead end.More about: , ,
