GM’s Henderson walks after a failed eight months

Fritz Henderson has resigned his post as Chief Executive of General Motors after just eight months behind the wheel.

Company directors agreed that the 51-year-old had not done enough to repair company finances. Henderson’s time in charge saw failed deals to sell off Opel, Saturn and Saab, an inability to bring in fresh faces and market share losses in the US. Ed Whitacre GM chairman: “ I would like to have the opportunity to assure all our employees, our dealers, our suppliers, our union partners, and most of all our customers that GM’s daily business operation will continue as normal.” Many believe that Henderson, the right hand man of former chief executive, Rick Wagoner, was too old guard to handle the challenges post financial crisis. Meanwhile its emerged that the Dutch luxury car maker Spyker, is in talks with GM over the possible purchase of Saab. Spyker produced 43 cars last year, which sell for a minimum of 200,000 euros each, said it was interested in the arm, but refused to say whether it had put in a bid.
