British yachtsmen, arrested in Iran, released

Five British yachtsmen arrested by Iran have been released.

They were detained in the Gulf after their yacht apparently strayed into Iranian waters. British Foreign Secretary David Miliband held talks with his Iranian counterpart the day before. He stressed the men were civilians and played down parallels to an incident two years earlier when British military were found off Iranian coast and seized. Relations between Britain and Iran are also tense over Iran’s nuclear programme and Iran’s allegations of British involvement in post-election violence last year. The five men were sailing from Bahrain to Dubai for a race. The yacht apparently suffered propeller problems and drifted out of control towards the Iranian island of Sirri.More about: ,
