Ferry tragedy off Bangladesh

The official death toll after the sinking of a passenger ferry in Bangladesh has risen to 33, with dozens more missing.

Twelve of the bodies found so far are children. The overcrowded vessel sank in a river along the Bangladesh coast It is reported that some 1500 passengers were on board the boat, about three times the number it is registered to carry. Many of those on board were going home to celebrate the Muslim Eid al-Adha festival. Eye witnesses say most of the passengers managed to swim to safety but up to 80 may still be missing. The government has ordered an investigation.More about: ,
