German’s Former Defence Minister Resigns

German’s Labour Minister Franz Josef Jung has resigned.

During his previous role as defence minister, a German air strike killed 69 Taliban fighters and 30 civilians in Kunduz, according to the Afghan government. His resignation follows that of his former deputy and head of the German armed forces. “With my decision, I take the political responsibility for the internal communication policy of the defence ministry, in regard to the events on the 4th of September in Kunduz,” said Jung. Jung faced a barrage of calls for him to admit a cover up as he repeatedly denied civilians were killed in the attack. He has now admitted that he knew for weeks of a military report indicating civilian deaths.More about: ,
