Are Belgian parties on verge of forming government? Yves Leterme has been sworn in as Belgium’s prime minister, giving him a second stint at running the country’s fragile government. King Albert II presided over the proceedings having earlier nominated the Flemish Christian Democrat to replace outgoing prime minister Herman Van Rompuy.
The Belgian parliament is expected to approve the appointment next week, however the big question being asked is will Leterme’s second term in office be more stable than the first? Leterme was the clear winner of the 2007 general election but failed to form a viable coalition because of tensions between French and Dutch speaking parties.
