world news

A passenger ferry has sunk off the coast of Sumatra, with the loss of at least 20 lives, but 232 people have survived, although there is still a number of people missing.

Bad weather is the probable cause, but although the ship went down close to the shore enabling a rapid rescue effort, it is hindering the recovery of survivors. An inquiry has been opened to see if the ferry was seaworthy, and if it was overloaded.More about: ,
