An Air France A380 has touched down at Kennedy airport. The Paris to NewYork journey was the world’s largest airliner’s inaugural transatlantic flight.

On board were 538 passengers most of whom had bid for seats in an auction to raise money for charity. Although it is the pride of European aircraft maker Airbus, its manufacture has been beset by production and delivery delays. But that did not seem to worry one aviation buff: “It is a dream come true, it’s something I’ve dreamed of for a long time. And in an aircraft which I’ve followed being built. I know all the details of its construction .It’s rather extraordinary. I have to pinch myself to believe it.” Despite the current financial crisis and a fall in passenger numbers worldwide, Airbus is hoping to deliver 13 new superjumbos this year. Singapore Airlines, Emirates and Quantas already use them. And just for the record, the transatlantic trip raised 300,000 euros for humanitarian projects.More about: Air France, Airbus
