‘Human fat murderers’ arrested in Peru

world news

| |

Peruvian police say they have broken up a gang suspected of killing dozens of people in order to sell their body fat to cosmetic companies. In a stpry redolent of a gruesome horror film the four suspects allegedly targeted individuals in remote areas, killing them and then farming their flesh.
Police say the group stored what it extracted in water bottles, before selling it on. Used in beauty products, fat fetches a high price, anything up to 10,000 euros per litre.

Authorities were tipped off earlier this month after discovering a shipment of the human harvest in Lima. Detectives say remains from some of the victims were found in and around a remote house in the mountainous region of Huanuco where the group operated. It is feared as many as 60 people may have murdered. At least five other suspects belonging to the gang, including two Italians, remain at large.
