Time is ticking for decision on top EU posts

With only a few hours to go, there is still confusion as to who will scoop the European Union’s two top jobs.

Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy is a favourite for president. The confusion continues for position of foreign affairs chief with many strong contenders. The heads of the 27 member nations will meet at a special summit tonight to decide. Mr Van Rompuy has been described as a pragmatic rather than charismatic figure. France and Germany’s support mean he has a good chance of winning. Meanwhile, with only one female candidate for presidency, rallys in Brussels have been taking place fighting for more women in top EU jobs. Both these positions were created under the Lisbon Treaty, which comes into force on the 1st of December 2009.More about: , ,
