A deadly suicide attack has hit the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, continuing a wave violence to hit the region. Police say at least 19 people were killed and dozens wounded when a bomber blew himself up outside a courthouse.

The blast, in a crowded street, was the seventh in less than two weeks in and around Peshawar. Since the beginning of October, more than 300 people have been killed across Pakistan in bombings and militant attacks, most of them in the north-west. Medics say more than 50 injured were rushed to hospital. The latest bombing took place not far from the Pearl Continental Hotel, the scene of a truck bomb strike earlier this year. Islamists have increased their violent guerilla campaign in direct response to an army offensive launched against the Pakistani Taliban in South Waziristan last month.More about: ,
