A US army major is to face initial murder charges for allegedly gunning down 13 of his colleagues at a military base in Texas last week.

Army psychiatrist, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, is still in hospital after being shot by police. Some reports claim he had links with a cleric close to al-Qaeda, and authorities say they are not ruling anything out. Chris Grey, spokesman for the US Army Criminal Investigation Department said: “We still believe that there was only one gunman at the scene, involved in the actual shootings on November 5. “We do know that the suspect was not at the Readiness Centre for any scheduled appointments or command-directed activity. Again we are looking at every possible angle in this case.” President Barack Obama has now ordered an internal inquiry and ordered all government agencies to search for any information about Major Hasan before the Fort Hood shootings. Relatives and colleagues have said that Hasan voiced concern about his deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan because he was against the wars.More about: ,
