The bodies of the five British soldiers killed by a rogue policeman in Afghanistan last week, have arrived in the UK. Six coffins landed at RAF Lyneham, near Swindon – the sixth contained another soldier who died clearing a roadside bomb in Sangin in Helmand.

The five troops killed by the Afghan policemen had been relaxing at a police checkpoint in the Nad Ali district of Helmand Province when the gunman opened fire. Another five soldiers were injured in the attack. The policeman fled and still has not been captured. This is the 98th time repatriation flights have brought back the bodies of dead British soldiers since the war began. As is now customary, these coffins passed through streets lined with silent people, paying their respects.More about: Afghanistan, Army, United Kingdom
