French and Italian industrial output falls

Sharp falls in industrial output in France and Italy suggests difficulties ahead for the euro zone’s still fragile economic recovery.

French output was down 1.5 percent in September, while output in Italy plunged 5.3 percent, almost fully reversing a surprise 5.8 percent jump the month before. Analysts blamed seasonal volatility for the falls. However the firm growth envisaged for the third and fourth quarters in the 16-nation euro area still looks far from sustainable.More about: , ,
