Lebanon opposition agrees to form government

Opposition parties, including Iranian backed Hezbollah, have reportedly agreed to form a national unity government in Lebanon.

The deal follows five months of tough negotiations with the Prime Minister in waiting Saad Hariri.

Lebanon’s new government could be formed in the next few hours or coming days if Hariri’s allies accept the opposition’s offer.

Rival factions had agreed with Hariri in July on a broad division of cabinet seats but struggled to agree on ministerial positions.

Hariri, son of assassinated prime minister Rafik al-Hariri, was nominated as prime minister-designate after leading an anti-Syrian coalition to victory in parliamentary elections in June.
