EXCLUSIVE – Abbas to EU: lead Mideast peace Mahmoud Abbas will not seek re-election as Palestian President. The announcement’s been made by an official from his PLO party’s executive committee. In October, President Abbas announced early elections will take place next January, but he’s insisting he won’t stand. It’s believed the lack of progress with Israel over peace talks and Israeli land settlements. Abbas has also been unable to reconcile his party with Hammas.
