The Romanian parliament has rejected the prime minister designate and his proposed cabinet. They were rejected with 250 negative votes.
Three political parties came together to block Lucian Croitoru from power. They are not satisfied with the choice of the national bank adviser as new Prime Minister. Croitoru was to replace Emil Boc, whose administration fell last month.
This is bad news for President Basescu, who picked Croitoru. And this leaves the country in political turmoil, in the run up to the presidential election on November 22. Economists warn Romania is running out of time to meet conditions set for a 20bn euro aid package.
