Klaus signs Lisbon at last

The European Union’s Lisbon Treaty has received the final signature it needed to complete ratification. The Czech Republic’s President Vaclav Klaus has finally put pen to paper, following today’s compatibility ruling by his country’s constitutional court.

As all the 27 EU member states have now approved the treaty, the bloc’s leaders are expected to quicken their step in deciding who will fill two new key jobs: A full-time EU president to replace the system of six month rotation among the governments, and a foreign policy high representative with enhanced powers. Improved decision-making in an enlarged Union and more impact on the world stage are among the Lisbon Treaty’s formost goals.More about: ,
