The world-renowned social anthropologist Claude Levi-Strauss has died. He was 100 years old.

The Frenchman’s ideas were extremely influential. He is best known for popularising a theory called Structuralism, and has been called the father of modern anthropology. His study of indigenous tribes in Brazil led to important theories on behaviour and culture. He also studied myths in primitive and modern societies. Levi-Strauss also wrote several important books which are considered anthropology classics. He will be honoured by the Academie Francaise later this week.More about: ,
