Iran says it is ready for new discussions on the proposed deal aimed at easing international tension over Tehran’s atomic activities. Earlier Foreign Minister Manoucherh Mottaki told a meeting of Islamic countries in Malaysia that Iran had some “technical and economic” considerations, calling on the UN’s nuclear watchdog to set up a commission to review them.

Under the IAEA’s plan, most of Iran’s low-enriched uranium would be sent to Russia for processing. It would then go to France to be converted into fuel rods for use in a Tehran reactor. The move is seen as a way of allowing Iran to get the fuel it needs, while guaranteeing that the uranium will not be used to make nuclear weapons. Last week Iran said it wanted to see important changes to the plan, leading some observers to question whether Tehran was simply playing for time while pressing ahead with its programme.More about: IAEA, Iran
